They need an option for "No but I want one even though I don't need one and my parent's won't let me have one"

I convinced my parents I needed a 83+ for Alg. I and a 89ti for Alg. II.

Yeah, and how much of the functionality of the TI-89Ti did you actually USE, except for possibly Solve(), Factor(), and Expand()?

My V200 has more functions than I will probably ever use, even though I taking Calc III and DiffEq this year. I did put it through its paces in Calc II (no calcs in Calc I- drat!).

I would say get whatever you think you'll need once- buy ONE TI-89 and keep it through college. Even if a Voyage 400 Color Screen with a 800MHz PIII-M ULV and 128MB RAM comes out.

I've gone though Calc I, II, and III and DiffEq with my TI89, and pretty much didn't use it for any more than derivatives, integrals, and slope fields. Everything else I could pretty much do on my 83+, however the "exact" format in pretty print also came in handy...

My Algebra teacher sent out a sheet saying that the school uses the TI-83 and that a TI-83 or TI-83 Plus would be best for all the classes.

In short: I need a 83+, I have a 83+SE, I have more than I need therefore I don't need anymore.

I doubt it but maybe the school will get some 84+ calcs and I'll need one. They got 83+ calcs when we needed more.

RadioShack has a sale on the older ones:
TI-83 (not plus) - $89
TI-83 Plus - $109

Shows how expensive Radio Shack is if *that's* the sale price. :-) I frequently see the 83+ sold for less (~$99), and once even for $89.

An 89ti for Algebra 2?!?!?! 120d That must have taken a lot of convincing... :-)

How hard is that? You simply show them Graphical Unit Circle on the 89Ti, explain that you can't do that on the 83+, use some computer terminology that they don't understand, talk about the necessity to invest in a device that you'll eventually need (doing some random symbolic integrations to prove your point), and find it for less than the 83+ on the internet (without showing them the 83+ part of that website).

Exactly. That and I told them it would be cheaper to buy a 89ti then continue to use my 83+ because it "chewed batteries like nothing funny". I really can't beleive they beleived that part.

As soon as I get around to it, I'm going to get a TI-89 Titanium to complement my TI-89. I'm also considering buying a Voyage 200 PLT and a TI-86.

I still don't have a TI-89Ti, but I do have the latest TI-89Ti OS (3.00). I found a place to get one...but I'm not telling where.

I can't even FIND a TI-89 Titanium, let alone buy one.

<SingSong> Do you know the way to use eBay? </SingSong> ;) I love those commercials. As I said in a previous post, I found a 49g+ for $100 on ebay which is 50 bucks under retail. I'm sure you could find quite a few 89 Titaniums for a fair price...

What's better? I'd sure like to find a lower price on any of them, but these people are the best I could find.

Market, not auction. A price, not a bid.

<singsong></singsong> MY CALCULATOR IS BROKEN! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! I just found my calculator in my recliner with a big splotch on the LCD! It still works, but the top right quarter of the screen is nearly impossible to read... :(

That sucks. On a lighter note that sounds like a great time to test out one of those Blue LCD programs (assuming it was your 83+).
