I don't think they could get too much more advanced than the 86 (at least in math functions). :-)

already have...the 89...and HP's 49g/+ is even better than that, but it's just not as user-friendly...

Ah, but my 89Ti's 2.7MB is much better. :)

Yeah....planty of room for games :P. The math programs and the functions are great, too.

Does the Xpand 4MB hack work for the V200?

That's what it was designed to hack. However, on the 89Ti, there's no need for a hack because all 4MB can be addressed normally.

XPand was made for the V200. However I am confused. See, it was made so that on the V200, you couls use all 2.7MB. Now, as far as I know, there is the same amount of flash in the 89ti, only no need for Xpand, so this 4MB figure is confusing the hell out of me.

The protection that Xpand broke is not there on the 89Ti.

I know. My confusion lies in this new "4MB" figure that is being thrown around. It is only 2.7 on the 89ti, where is 4 coming from?

From Xpand. External hardware that can add 4MB of memory to your calc.

I don't know why people keep saying the new calcs are pointless. My TI 83+ broke, and i'm certainly going to buy an 84+/SE (or maybe 89 TI). They arn't meant to be new calcs, just juiced up versions of the old ones.

except when your calculator dies in school right before a test because of the battery consumption caused by color LCD's and your desire to play "Color Phoenix for the TI-93+ Color Edition"...

That's why they should make a battery charger like for cell phones.

Or make a cradle with a screen, keyboard, etc., and put just the circuit board on removable media so that people can use it with their computers...

A device like that does exist- it's called a PDA. You can get programs like Mathematica or Maple for PocketPC and PalmOne PDAs- and PDAs have color screens, cradles, keyboards, and my favorite, 802.11b WLAN...

Or, you could just buy a $700 laptop and pirate Mathematica and have a much more powerful machine!

A PDA costs $500, though. I was thinking of just a normal calculator constructed differently. However, it seems pointless on second thought.

Yeah, color (and CF slots, and huge high-res screens, and other suggestions I've seen) is almost pointless. Sometimes people forget that these are graphing calcs, not gaming machines. If you want to play games on a color screen, get a Gameboy. These additions would just drive up the cost for those who buy calcs for math work.

Yes, but the point is that it is a graphing calc. A gamboy may have great games, but you have to have a lot of money to make one. With tht TI calcs and the like, anyone can program for it. That is what is appealing. Having experience on a colour screen would be benificial to those who would see it as a starter platform. Colour would be very nice, indeed. Not to mention there is a precident set by other companies.
