i've never cheated, but someone (other than me) downloaded password pro 800 or so times, so magnus reset the count to 0 (which was about 2400 at the time)... i asked if i could get the downloads back but i was denied since no one (not even no_one) believed me.

hey, if someone with the power is reading this, will you add 2400 downloads to password pro for me? thanks!

There, I downloaded it. Too bad I don't have an 89... hey! I'll tell you what! If you send me a new 89, I will download it again!

OK... so I would be getting the best of the bargan, but it doesn't hurt to offer!

Something similar happened to me before I was a staff member. Someone else downloaded a program of mine around 1,400 times in one day and it was not me, however that didn't bring up any attention.

You forget that I could probably dig up the proof that it wasn't me :-)

Really? Do you keep a list of IP addresses that goes that far back or something? THat would be really messed up.

I wouldn't cheat on download stats because I would like to know how many times my programs were legitimately downloaded. Besides, it would be a waste of time--I don't care whether they become popular or not. I just uploaded them because I thought they might be useful to someone.

So far, both programs I uploaded so far have gotten around 100 downloads each. I wonder what the people who downloaded them thought of them. :-)

I know what you mean. I've only got one email from someone about my programs and that's about how I say in my bio "PLEASE tell me about bugs in my programs" and then I uploaded a program called "Bugs". lol
Anyway, people out there, I (like most people) do like to be emailed about my programs. I don't mind if it's hate mail, as long as you don't send the same message twenty times in a row :)

As far as I have seen people who speak english do not e -mail anyone for nothing but people from spanish and portugese speaking countries do e-mail asking for help or even congratulating the authors for their work

Yeah, I get a lot (comparatively speaking) of emails from french people reporting bugs, asking for help, saying they love the program, etc. but I never have gotten a email from one person that spoke English...what's the word I'm looking for...fluently.

Hmm...I'd be careful about voting "yes." Once they have your IP, they can figure out exactly which download stats you have cheated, and reset them.

Or, on second thought, they could just not feel that would even be worth the effort. :-)

Besides... only 4 people (including you) have voted yes, it wouldn't that too long...

That would slow you down a little, but you could just ask no_one, as he seems certain it can be done.

I think no_one is either very smart or just a conspiricy theorist (like myself) who knows how to sound smart.

And yet you have enough time to prove it wasn't you who downloaded your program 800 times? How would you catch that, anyway? If some random program just got a bunch of downloads, but not enough to get on a top list?

I'ld just like to make this my fairwell address to the ticalc.org community. Yep, I'm no longer writing calculator software, nor will I even be using ticalc.org to the extent I am now. My TI-89 has broken and I replaced it with an HP49g+ (you know, the super cool one that runs at 75 MHz), and so now I have little need to use ticalc.org and no desire to write software I can't fully test.

I wasn't an integral part of the community, so I doubt anyone will miss me, but just in case months from now people wonder where the hell I went, well now you'll know. BTW, I'll still be checking my posts until lack of interest, so I will respond to replies. I'm also going to continue maintaining my old software when people ask, so I'll still exist somewhat.

Well, after three years of usage, I let my brother borrow it for a math test. Before he gave it back he dropped it "head-first" without the slide case on and cracked the LCD. Unless anyone has a TI-89 LCD you'ld like to donate, I'm stuck. It's OK though, I've been waiting for an excuse to get an HP49G+ since they were announced... I even got it cheaper than my 89, $121.34 including shipping.
