Nah, it's a pretty open-ended poll. I like those. Leads to all types of different discussions. You can't get bored with that! :)

Ooh... how about, who is your favorite character from Charles Dickens' "Great Expectations"? Mine is Wemmick (sp?). You know, the lawyer's secretary.

Yea, people used to have longer attention spans. I think that television has made us all dumber.

Keep with the book; the plot really picks up before long.

favorite characters in english literature....

I prefer Prince Imrahil from tLOTR because he has a cool name. I actually have that msn screenname, although I never use it: prince_imrahil@msn.com
It was brute-forced a while ago and whenever I try to log on to experiment with MSN Explorer, it says I have too many incorrect password attempts.

I just discovered why my site has 0 hits (although for some reason the built-in PHP Nuke stats say 2 peeps were on a once, did I just say peeps?)... my dad has blocked port 80! ouch. My site (home server off cable modem) will never be seen! Oh well, maybe I can get him to unblock it for a day and get a domain transfer; although I really like not having to upload stuff. It is so easy, its insane! just move all your files to a specific folder, and BINGO! all your CGIs, scripts, pages, links all work. Of course you have to install activeperl, php, etc but its worth it :)

you have some optimization to do...

for (int i=0;i<2005;i++)
{
//do nothing
}
System.out.println("It is now "+(i-1));

Even that can be optimized!

System.out.println("It is now 2004");

lol

I would say that over-optimizing would take longer than just naturally writing your code with a little optimization.

Re: Re: Re: ¤

Usually, but if you do it enough, it eventually becomes a habit, and you don't have to optimize it later on, if you start writing really efficient code. But I guess it doesn't really matter that much. Computers now, are fast enough to run any slow inefficient program just as fast as an efficient one. The only program is how much space it takes up, and even now, with 120GB harddrives, it doesn't really matter. Programmers are getting lazy. LOL Look how much space AOL 9.0 takes up. *blah*

Try programming on a TI-82. You REALLY have to optimize to get it all to fit.

I am an 83+ owner, do you send over your C in compiled form, and if so, wouldnt the compiler just optimize the compiled code for you (delete comments, strip all newlines, etc)?

The 83+ is not programmed in C, but in z80 assembly. With the 68k calculators (89,92,92+,V200) the binaries are sent, not the source. (I think... I have never used one!)

like it would take time for a 32-bit processor running at a couple ghz to count to 2000. oh, but are we talking calcs here? oh, I was wondering why you were using system.out.blah.whatever rather than cout or system('@echo off\necho 2004') heh heh. Necho. Heh. Could you do that, including a \n in batch?
