I do remember opening up my TI-85 once and displacing the keys so they were all scrambled. Heh.

Actually, this could be practical on the 92. The SAT doesn't allow calcs with QWERTY keyboards but they don't say you can't use one with a Dvorak.

I tried to open up my TI-83 once. Then I realized a) I'm very accident prone and end
up destroying the calc. b) It was my only calcuator c) I paid (half) for the bloody thing.
So before I went and did something I would probably really regret, I stopped. :)

I opened up my ti-85 once I got my 89. I just looked around on the inside one day when I was bored in gym. I don't see how anyone could really break it, aside from smashing with a screwdriver or something :). I mean if the keys fall out you can just put them back in.

No, I think it's sad we have to /say/ so many of these points. But these have been the guidelines all along. People were upset because we were 'too vague,' so now these guidelines specifically state what qualifications I use to delete a comment. (I also use common sense, of course.)

You were one of the strongest supporters of clearer guidelines, anyhow. So be happy--we've finally put them up for all to see. :)

It is sad you have to say all these points. You have way too many guidelines, its like the U.S. tax code. Why don't you guys lighten up and let free speech reign?

These have been exactly the guidelines all along? Then what was the point of the "trials" and the survey? They didn't change a SINGLE THING?

Sure, I was a supporter of clearer guidelines, but also for less guidelines. I was also a supporter of free speech, which is NOT anarchy.

And why did you make the news item read-only? Why don't you want comments/feedback on your decision. Why did you make a decision and not let people respond to it? That is stupid.

Ask your fellow users why they didn't choose anarchy (or, in other words, "free speech") in the recent poll. And you were very vocally in support of having enough guidelines to explain why comments get deleted. We tried to explain it in a list of 3 items, but clearly it wasn't sufficient.

Sometimes people try new things and then keep doing things the old way. The point of a trial is to see if it's worth changing or not. In this case, it's not.

Lastly, we have provided plenty of public forums for discussing this issue. (And this isn't one of them!) We have all heard your opinion, and you presumably cast your vote along with everyone else. If you want to respond to our decision, as the article said, you may email us -- otherwise, there's to be no more public discussion about this. That's not the same as "not let[ting] people respond to it."

Again, this is definitely not a public forum for further discussion on this matter, and this thread ends here, as it is completely unrelated to the survey. Take it up with us in email from now on, or your replies WILL be removed, as all that red text very clearly states.

Chris

Yes i have taken apart my calculator (ti-89) , cuz the buttons kept sticking, and i had to clean them, and i dont like the screen material, it seems to get marked and pitted a lot easier then the 86 one does, i have had the 86 for 3 years, and the plastic screen panel looks brand new, my 89??....NOOO, i can clean it all i want, and in a day its gonna look all pitted and nasty!

on a side note, Brian Rabeler should change his name to Babbeler, cuz thats all he's doing is babbeling on and on about unnecessary things.

one last question, if i cant ask for a game port here, WHERE CAN I???...i have two calcs, and there is a game that i would like ported from one to the other, please tell me where to ask for that.

Your best bet is to email the program's author or porter and ask _nicely_. Also make sure you're making a realistic request -- asking for someone to port from the TI-92 to the TI-82, for instance, is usually unrealistic, since programs need to be entirely rewritten for the different processor families. Oh, and ask nicely. :) Programmers get a ton of such requests and they work for free, so they need encouraging and gratitude, not pestering.

Well...I think someone here is a little irate about what is going on. It's very clear to me that the people who own and run this web site are being put on the defensive stand for no reason. As I'm sure it has been stated many times, you choose to come here and access every thing this site has to offer. It is your decision to come here and just as easily so can be your decision to leave. If you have a problem with the comment boards, the voting, the rules, or the leadership, then you can leave. Nobody forces you to come here. In fact, I'm sick and tired of people complaining that the people who run this site "owe" it to the ti-owners to provide a service that obliges with whatever they demand. Get over it. Like I said before, if you don't like it, leave.

On another note,
I don't really see a need for opening up a calculator. Maybe overclocking is good for some people, but I don't see it benefiting myself. A backlight would be nice though...

"If you don't like it, just leave."

I find that kind of position very disturbing and sick. If everyone had that attitude, nothing would ever get fixed. There would be a lot of "leaving" going on and nothing being done about any problems. The only way you fix things is when you don't leave and you stay and you fix it.

Ok...there is absolutly no reason why you should feel this way. As I remember, you no longer have anything to do with this site. You are just like any other Joe Shmoe who visits and that includes myself. You need to respect the services that these people provide you.

For example:
Yahoo, just like the people here at ticalc, provide a service. Now, if yahoo just one day decides to cancel their e-mail service, what are you going to do about it? You can complain and scream and howl, but basically there is nothing you can do about it. So what do you do? You put on a frown and start whining maybe. Then you go to excite. It's not as good as yahoo, but they do offer free e-mail.

This is what I'm talking about.

There is absolutly nothing you can do about what ticalc does to their messageboards so it would save you time and energy to quit complaining about it. Not only is it a pathetic attempt to get back at the people who shunned you, it shows a real lack of character. As I'm sure you will be quick to disagree with me, I just want you to know that this is the feeling I get from your posts, as it may in fact be completely wrong. All I can say is that if you don't like it, leave. If you still want to make a difference, start your own web site where you control what happens. You may not like it, but unfortunatly that's all you can do really.

Jake

ok, 2 things.....

1. You are not a site like yahoo, you don't have anything close to the resources that Yahoo has. Yahoo can get shit done when they have to, they have the money and the power.

2. Please stop comparing ticalc to larger for-profit sites. They are nothing of the same!
