RE: TI-H: Speeds

you also have to remember that there are buffers in the modem also. I've had
120k/sec file transfers for 2-3 seconds on my 56k modem that connects at a
measily 41333. and, of course the file was a mp3, so it's well compressed.
also, if you use netscape or internet explorer for a browser, if you cancel
a file in the middle of it, the browsers attempt to resume the file (off
some web servers, you can resume a file over http, not just ftp) and it
calculates that you just got 150k in a second (or however much you just
downloaded before cancelling it) so, it causes a burst in transfers. the
buffers in the modems do the same thing.. they only hold up to like 32kbits
at a time though, so it doesn't seem to make much of a difference in
transfers.

but, what's really odd is when you get a 3 MB file (zip file) at 12KB/sec...
:) that day was really wierd..
