The G3 power book has enough power to play Austin Powers, the Spy who
shagged me twice on its only set of batteries. :)

Yes, I know. Its power management, voltage consumption and battery life is
astounding.

It is still, however, too damned expensive for me. Grant, will a G3/266
with 64MB RAM and an ATi 3D gfx accel run Win95/98 with acceptable Direct3D
performance?

One thing I didn't like about the new Toshiba is its "Screen smooth
technology". It looks more foggy than it does smooth. DVDs come out like
they were played on a 13" 15 yo TV set that had its convergence all messed
up. I couldn't figure out how to turn it off.

A real nice thing is that (I think) it had video out (NTSC/PAL) and some
type of weird docking interface.

I've never seen it used, but yeah, it has an RCA video out jack on the back
of the DVD-ROM/net/floppy dock. AT&T Local Services runs NT on their
laptops (hurl, vomit) and they can't seem to make the DVD work as a DVD, so
I've never been able to see it.
