Well, I'd say its probably a combination of complexity, skill and
finally usability.  

Most of us don't have the skill required to design and implement a
practical radio link.  I'm sure most of us are fully capable of learning
to do so, but who's got the time?

The IR link as a wireless link is good enough for most
people, although the radio link would certainly have advantages.  

An internal radio link would be pretty sweet, you could chat with
people anywhere within range.

If anyone does decide to build a radio link I'd suggest making it
compatible with TI-protocol so only the hardware is required.
This way you could clear the calcs memory then download a
memory backup via the radio link without using a computer.
