the lead does not go into the screen but it connects next to it on the board

You could also file the contacts down to where you can solder to them and do
so with normal thin wire. I am assuming this is possible as there must be a
metal contact or trace somewhere. I guess the screen end might not have any
contacts now that I think about it.
