Umm... maybe so you can cram more data on it?  I know, the whole pink
noise test arguments and all, but honestly, your average listener cannot
tell because his headphones are blasted WAY up with Mega Bass or
whatever the manufacturer calls it, and the audio is severly distorted.
MP3 serves as a nice way to fit more data into less space with
acceptable audio quality, THAT'S why it's such a hot format.
