I think it comes from MO (more) SLO (slow) implying that it makes the
target system run slower. This is important to some programs which are
calibrated by a certain number of processor cycles and don't know about
how to compensate for a processor which runs much faster than the one it
was designed for. Basically it just inserts a bunch of NOPs to slow the
processor down.
