Yes, they are.  Single-sided 2.8 (or so) GB disks are $20, and double-sided
are $40.

I've seen Creative's drives for $500.

BTW, I've seen DVD-ROM drives for $100 or so, but they don't include the
MPEG2 decoder card, required to play MPEG2 videos (DVD-Video.)  That would
be an extra $160.
