It looks like a logic circut to me.  How many leads are on it?  If there
are two leads it's probably a inverter...  If there are three leads, 
it's probably either a NAND gate, NOR gate, or 3-state converter.

you should be able to find these gates in IC form at your local radio
shack,  or if you want to build one yourself you can probably find
schematics for them in an electronics book.
