Once you get one working, yes.  There are many examples on the net on how to
use it as a remote control, either via pre-programmed codes or recorded
signals (Not on the TI's obviously, as they don't currently have a working
IR Link available to the public).

i was wondering, after you have the ir link on your calculator, can you
controlyour tv with it? maybe write a program that could do it all for
you? - or better yet, have a learning remote, so you could point the old
remote control at the ir link, while it was in some sort of learn mode,
and have it memorize the pattern?
does anybody know about that sort of thing?
