nder if our processors would be as fast and power hungry as >they currently are if they didn't have to push around bloated >OS's like windows? Makes me think our computer technology is >about like automotive technology about 25-30 years ago, huge, >powerful and power hungry. Most of the stress is in buss communication. There are buffers on all processor I/O for protection and so the signals will travel. In a tui like linux, its pushing text. In a gui its pushing constant streams of video over the bus when ever you move the mouse. IBM has done a great jub in making powerful and portable processors. The PPC 292MHz laptop is about .06x faster than the 300MHz desktop PPC. The PPC 750 300MHz in my computer runs with a small 3/4inch high heat sink and no fan. Its never hot to the touch, not even warm. When I leave the case open for a few hours and there is no air circulation it still doesn't get hot. When I overclocked it to 550MHz it did get warmer and required a fan, but I sent back the beta kit because the processor would miss buss timing and weird video artifacts would appear on the screen... Go to www.micronet.net. They use an oc'd 750 for all of their main functions. It handles 100+ authentication requests a second. www.micronet.net is that 750. If you so wish, cable.micronet.net is the iMac in their lobby demonstrating the cable modem service... Some times its slow because everyone wants to see full motion streaming video from flordia before they buy one... Grant
