connected over the link port, an RTC chip with a proper interface and an ASM driver would work, but you'd still need a battery.  I was toying with the idea of using a standard digital clock module (the cheap four button models)and hacking the output to connect via a link port compatible protocol.  It would be equally difficult, though...
