Yes, but NVGs are a replacement for normal vision.  With the goggles on,
soldiers can see in the dark, but their eyes are adjusted to the
daylight, because of the bright video screens in front of them.  If they
take off the goggles, they can't see until their eyes adjust to the
darkness.  With a calculator, it has to be dim enough that it doesn't
mess up your night vision by just looking at the screen.
