In an electronic flash there is a circuit called a flyback converter,
which converts the low voltage from the batteries to a high AC voltage.
The high voltage is then rectified and stored in a large capacitor until
the flash is triggered. Maybe it would be possible the use such a
converter to drive the nightlight.
