Two words: symbolic manipulation.  Well, that and derivatives, integrals, 
limits, summations, etc.  The 89 is good enough that you can afford to be 
lazy.  It has a much better layout and home screen.  Solving is easier, more 
logical, and more simple.  You can get exact answers instead of decimal 
approximations.  TI-BASIC on the 89 is so improved over the Z80 calcs that 
it's practically a different language.  And, perhaps most importantly, the 
programs for the 89 are much better.
