No, the BASIC on the TI-89 is very different than on the TI-86.

why don't you download the graphlink software and open up some basic 
programs and take a look at it. for the most part it is in fact the same 
basic as all the other calcs, but improved commands.  the asm is different, 
but the games are better, IMHO.
