There are two things that I can think of that you may be doing
incorrectly, and this will solve both:

:InpSt "Enter y1:",Y
:St>>Eq(Y,y1
:DispG

Just to make sure you know, the >> means the "convert-to" symbol(found in
string menu...).  If you need something a little different, let me know
