The very first program in this chain was "Three Easy Pieces", written
originally for the old Apple III (who remembers that?). This became Appleworks,
which went through a number of versions suited to the growing power of the
Apple II, II+ and IIe. After Apple sold off rights to the program it was taken
much further by third parties, eventually becoming AppleWorks 5, a powerful
integrated application with relational capabilities which ran beautifully on
the Apple IIGS (but still very well on a built-up IIe). AppleWorks was
eventually (some five years ago) ported to the Mac environment, where it is
still being used, by "Beagle Brother" Randy Brandt. Anyone know of a program
that has enjoyed comparable length of service?
