Ok...I haven't responded to this thread of Favorite Calculator yet, but I
have a TI-92, and I vote for that one.
(I've tried all kinds of calculators, TI and HP)

Yes it is great for statistics. The TI-83 is actually dubbed the
statistics calculator, because it has so many statistics options, but the
TI-92 works just as well. It can do simple things such as mean, median,
mode, and also more advanced statistical features like regressions
(linear, logistic, exponential, quadratic, quartic, etc...), box plots,
sorting data by ascending and descending order, one variable and two
variable data displays, variance, standard deviations, and has related
probability features such as factorials, permutations, combinations,
random number features, and random matrix and poloynomial features. Also,
an important part of statistics is displaying data, (I should know, I am
majoring in math, persuing a degree in statistics is my long term goal),
and the TI-92 has many ways of displaying the data. It can do box plots,
(that show median, quartiles, outliers, max, mean), x-y lines, scatter,
histograms, and the data points can be displayed as boxes, squares,
crosses (+), or just dots, or as thick lines. Also, the thing that makes
the TI-92 great is that you can makes as many lists as memory lets you.
Meaning that you can store LOTS of data! OH, also, since the TI-92 can do
symbolic manipulation, you can do the statistical features with symbols as
well as real, hard data! (ie, if you wanted to do a standard deviation
calculation with just the numbers a,b you'd get abs(a-b)/sqrt2. The
keyboard is also great for typing in data!

I think people are hesitant about the TI-92 because it has been outlawed
on the sat's. This is due to the fact that it is considered a computer
because of the keyboard. However, the HP's that have IR (infared) transfer
are also outlawed on these standardized tests. Also, people say that their
college professors ban them on tests. HOWEVER, this varies by professor.
My professors have allowed them, I've heard that some don't. I even went
to my math department and asked, and they said that it is fine. Plus,
these teachers can tell if you are differentiating or integrating with a
calculator, it is easy to tell.

Phew! If I left out anything feel free to email me. :))

Hope that helps you!

Later, Biz
