I'll answer you're questions as well as I can.  Here's the answers:
1.  Anode is the positive end od a diode and cathode it the negative
end, and usually has a stripe on that end.
2. Assuming you have no electronics tools, diodes, 25-pin connector,
hood, 4-6 ft wire, solder, soldering iron, 1/8" stereo plug, 1/8" to
3/32" stereo to stereo adaptor.
3.  Go to ticalc.org and find plans.
4.  You can purchase all above materials from Radio Shack.
5.  I've heard better things about the parallel link.
6.  Follow the plans at ticalc.org.  If you can't read a schematic, I
would suggest having someone who can do this for you.
