It is true that you don't need a shell, as long as you only want to run
standard 86-Asm programs. If you want to run ZShell, Usgard, Rigel, or
PhatOS programs, you need ASE, which emulates these TI-85 shells, as
well as the TI-82's CrASH and ASH shells. ASE is a much friendlier
interface than the TI-OS's program menu. JShell (I think) is a BASIC
program and is not as fast or as versitile as ASE. Aurora is a lot like
Win95 and the mouse kinda sucks. If you're looking for a friendly
interface to your programs, as well as the ability to emulate many
popular games for the TI-85, ASE is your best bet. As a final note, ASE
will show ALL programs that exist on your 86, including BASIC and 86ASM;
ZShell, Usgard, PhatOS, and Rigel (strings); and CrASH and ASH, and it
will identify their type and size.

PS: ASE also has built-in password protection and contrast control.
