the reason is because you are taking the negative of whatever you are
raising... this also surprised me when I first used graphing claculators,
but the right way to input this operation is (-28)^2 if you do it just
-28^2 youll recall that in the order of operations, exponents are taken
early on (cant recall what order exactly) so the -28^2 first squares the
28 and then adds the - sign on the front.  Its a little odd, but it can be
a useful way to have it setup.
