What exactly did you think TI has to fear from pirates?  Are they
going to download pirated calculators and have them pop out from their
disk drives or something?  Seeing as the software is useless without
the hardware, and you have to pay TI for the hardware, it really isn't
costing them a cent to give away the software for free, because they've
made a bundle off of the hardware.  So set your larcenous mind at ease,
the generosity of the great calculator makers have given us an
abundance of free upgrades for them.<<
        Not to support the originator of this thread but you seem not to realize that
private companies will be releaseing programs for the 92+ for a price.  TI has
come up with a system so that one must have some sort of certificate that you
must pay for before the calculator let's you install the program.
