What's macstring? (Not familiar with it.) It sounds like it changes the
type&creator of the calculator files so that the Mac recognizes them.
For that I use Creator Changer, available from your friendly Info-Mac
mirror. :)

My guess is that macstring didn't give the right file type to the .85b
file. It needs to be '85B ', not '85S ' or '85P ' or any of those. Drop
the ZShell backup onto Creator Changer and have a look -- I'd bet that's
what's confusing Link85.
