PC's may have either 25 pin or 9 pin serial connectors. These are male "D"
type connectors (that is, they sort of look like an elongated letter "D"
on its side). Macs use an 8 pin female mini DIN connector that is small
and round.


Note that only 9 of the signal lines on a 25-pin serial port are actually
functional on most modern PC's. That's why many have simply switched to
9-pin connectors. Adaptors from 9-pin to 25-pin and vice versa are readily
available and do not change how the port works in any way.


On Macs, things are a bit trickier because they have only eight lines, so
there are a few different kinds of adaptors that function slightly
differently depending on the application. The adaptor that comes with the
TI GRAPH-LINK is wired differently than a standard adaptor for a
high-speed modem.
