if you're using _getkey (or whichever one waits for a key) and you want
the cursor displayed like when you're typing on the graphscreen, set
2,(iy+$1e).  if you're in 2nd, alpha, or lowercase alpha mode, the cursor
will be displayed in the upper right corner.

if that's not what you want, check the flags and print the appropriate
cursor image manually.
