Ahh, yes, exactly!  It was one of the stranger things to code for in XCEdit.

ASCIIZ == zero-terminated string.

In an *.86x file, the VAT name is length byte.

Well, it looks like I'll be updating XCEdit very soon to handle compressed
levels, and so v2.00 will be a final release and will contain the source
code with all my mad, rambling comments...

I don't think the file structure's extremely well commented, but the file
load/save routines should be sufficient to outline the structure.
QuickBASIC is rather simple to follow.  :)
