RE: A85: TI-89 Assembly Shell?

Well, all the Ti-86 assembly seems ok and sufficient, and the only things
the shells do is act as GUIs if you may for the programs. Otherwise, you
run a program by Asm(ProgName). The shells for the 86 do emulate the Ti-85
programs, which is pretty cool, but besides that, they are just GUIs. I
think the Ti-89 will be pretty much the same...

Subject: A85: TI-89 Assembly Shell?

Hi,

A topic here that might spark some interest. As most of you probably
already know, one of the new calculators coming out from TI is the TI-89
(a pretty nice calculator indeed). It has tons of memory, a high
resolution screen, and the 68000 micro. Certainly TI is providing
built-in assembly support, but of course it is probably going to be
rather limited. This leads me to my proposition/question. I feel that
as a group effort (of those who are interested) we should develop,
overtime, a standard assembly kernel/shell to extend on the rather
limited assembly support that TI will provide...such as Dynamic-Link
Library support, TSR support, etc. I would hate to see the TI-89 mimick
the myriad of different shells for the TI-85, etc. How is the assembly
support for the TI-86? Is it sufficient? Are there any true assembly
shells for the 86? Well if anyone is interested in initiating such a
project let us all know. We can certainly begin discussions and even
work and share code segments. One nice thing about the 89 is that by it
having flash ROM one can assume everyone to have the latest ROM version
(no messy JP tables, etc). Hope this helps a dead list.

Ben
