 I do not know who the system is implemented on the ti85, but on the ti82
there is a byte which tells "where" you are.
So by checking the value of the byte yuo can see if you are in the link menu
or not. Since things like input handlers are the same on the two calcs this
probably is too, so i guess you can find the byte if you want. I also
located a function sometime ago on the TI85 which checks if the value in a
has one of 6 values, his functions could very well be testing where the calc
is.
