When you send a message to multiple recipients using the To or CC fields,
the mailer only sends one message, and relies on the MTA to handle the
separate deliveries.  The reason why it is impolite to do this with mailing
lists is that it makes it impossible to correctly sort messages.  A mailer
must rely on the To field to accurately determine the target mailing list.
Recipients on multiple lists end up receiving the exact same message
multiple times, and as such they get sorted incorrectly.
