You can probably, just as I, use both ALT-148 and ALT-0246
(don't forget the first 0, it is really needed.)
But as you, I prefer pressing my ö button :)
It is also not "an o with dots" but a letter of its own in swedish. (that 
is, included as a letter of its own in the swedish alphabet) Together with 
å and ä.
