I've tried Synedit... didn't particularly care for it.
 I felt it was painfully slow in opening files, and
the syntax highliting didn't work very well.  If I
page down, then page up, the highliting was gone... I
would rather use wordpad.  Might just be my POS
computer though...

I have been pretty happy with Programmer's File
Editor, though.  No syntax highliting, but it's got
some nice features and opens files much faster than
Synedit.  It's also free from download.com.

As an alternative, you could always use something like
ZDS (or any other IDE like borland or visual studio,
whatever you've got) just to edit the file and then
run a .bat to assemble/link it...
