Linux is not a flavor of Unix (if you call Unix something that originated at
Bell Labs and Berkley), because it was written from scratch for x86
platforms.  It was based on the design of Unix for a variety of reasons,
probably the most important because it was well established: Unix users can
easily migrate, and people coding didn't argue about what key commands to
use for VI, for example.
