I'd heartily agree that Hex Workshop is THE best I have seen.  I've used it
for calc ASM, DOOM WAD hacking, diagnosing errors in my system, disk
editing (this feature is REALLY powerful), and learning the .bmp format
(for an 82 program I might make).
