Download statistics are back
Posted by Magnus on 11 November 2003, 19:05 GMT

Better late than never (I hope, at least), the download statistics are back again! All old logs between the server move (when the statistics went frozen) have been processed into our database, and are included in the rankings that show now. And the rankings are back to being updated once every night (that would be nighttime for those of you nearby the GMT timezone, of course).

The only real difference is that the weekly download fields is now the sum over the past 7 days instead of being back to last sunday as it was before. The sliding window is adjusted at each statistics update.

Update (Morgan): Speaking of 'Better late than never' the TI-83 Plus SE and the Voyage 200 PLT basics pages have been completed, despite the obvious release of the calculators a couple years back :-)

My only question is WHO KEEPS DOWNLOADING JEZZBALL?
It has an inordinate number of downloads. Is someone running endless repeated wget on it or something?

Pretty soon it will overtake Virtual TI!

There is a chance that it is linked to some other well known site. Or several at that.

People who try to get high ratings in stats tend to overlook quality (i used to) and swell the archives with trash. Havign stts are useful, but not the best idea without quality control.

Is the download counter increased when you click on the file ("do you want to open this file from location or save to disk?"), or does it increase when the download is complete?
Because if so, they probably just clicked on it, then cancel. Click, cancel, click, cancel, etc.

Maybe there is some other way to increase the download counter with another program.

It logs when you start downloading the file. Most browsers today start downloading the file in the background while you pick where to save it. (Heck, with most calculator downloads, they *complete* before you pick where to save it..)

Well, that's a good thing... I love how the files are so small, but now that's not as much of a problem for me, anymore, now that I have a cable modem!

Or, on the Mac, you just set a folder to download all files to, so just click on the link and forget about it! (Unless you get a 4kbps connection like I do, then go to sleep forgetting about it: 700MB Linux distro download: around an hour on US cable/DSL; around a day on a 54kbps modem, around two weeks on my connection!)

Actually I´ve heard that all 3 68k calcs work at 12Mhz, that makes me wonder about the new hp 49g+ is it true that it works with a 75Mhz processor is it really that fast compared to 68k calcs?, a friend of mine said that it was really fast but I havent seen it...

Re: Re: Re: Download statistics are back

Well, the old member of the 68K family are classified as HW1, which means they have less efficient hardware and a 10 MHz proc. These HW1 calcs are only the 89, 92, some 92+. All the new ones are HW2 which are the 89, some 92+, and all V200s.

"These HW1 calcs are only the 89, 92, some 92+."
"All the new ones are HW2 which are the 89, some 92+, and all V200s."

So the TI-89 is both HW1 and HW2. As is the 92+. Got it.

It really isn't both...just two different "versions" of the 89. Personally, I have the TI-89 v2.0 :)

(If you can't tell, I was just pointing out that you contradicted yourself. You might want to mention that there are two *kinds* of TI-89s and TI-92+s, not that they're both at once.

It's bad wording but I mentioned some HW1 and some HW2 for both 89s and 92+s.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Download statistics are back

No you didn't.
"These HW1 calcs are only the 89, 92, some 92+."
"All the new ones are HW2 which are the 89, some 92+, and all V200s."
You only said "some 92+" not "some 89", thus the literal meaning of what you said is that the 89 is both HW1 and HW2. You fail. :-p

I can't remember at the moment, but I've run my own bench marks and they continue to be identical to HW2 89s. Also, in the About screen it says HW2 which means it has the 12 MHz proc.

Well, given the fact that the V200 is an HW2 calc. I did some research and found this (or click my link):

Take the picture, then use Photoshop to fill the screen area with a gradient fill. Skew a screenshot, edit the colors to make the bg tan instead of white, adjust the brightness and contrast, and paste into onto the calc. Voila!

Its actually a green. He aslo forgot to mention the noise that needs to be added to make the screen more proper. A gradient could work but it would be difficult if you don't know what your doing, I love masks! They make life so much easier.

also, in the calculater description, when u menton the differences between the 83+ and 83+ SE u forgot to say that the processor is like 2x as fast (its more like 1.8 but whatever). just letting you kno....

I did however change the CPU description and mentioned that the SE was faster than the 83+ in the "Choosing Which Model to Buy."

If I have to change something else on the page I'll do it, but there's no immediate need for it.

Dude, Ticalc's background color is grey...

<!-- body -->
<TR BGCOLOR="#DDDDDD">

All of the body content is in a grey table row. Although it's true that the body tag starts with '<BODY BGCOLOR="white"', the only place the body actually shows up is in the copyright/contact/disclaimer box.

There is actually more work than that. Sorry to burst your bubble, but graphic design is really hard. Faking stuff can be harder. I'm just now getting the hang of it, barely.
