Organizer App for 68k
Posted by Joey on 20 July 2003, 08:24 GMT

TI has released their popular Organizer app for the TI-89, TI-92+, and V200 on their website. Unlike the TI-83+ version, this download is absolutely free. It can be used for class schedules, to-do lists, e-mail addresses, phone numbers, and also features a calendar. If you already use your calculator more than your PDA (or you don't have one), this merits checking out.

On an entirely unrelated note, Patrick Davidson recently mentioned on #tcpa that the movie advertised in the June 2003 Newsletter needed more publicity. Thus, perhaps you should check it out.

I think I might download this, even though I just use my cell fone to store fone #'s & email addresses (No, I don't have a fancy-assed cell fone, just a basic, bare-bones digital fone; I can't even program in the ringers!).

Same here. Oh wait, I thought you were talking about the movie. Never mind. :) Well, I probably won't... WAIT, OMG, it's free. Yeah, I'll download it. :) My cell phone is a plain one too, but you can plake Snake!

Actually... I doubt it would be that hard to write something like this in BASIC [the organizer, not snake-- C would be easier for that]. I was working on a project like this on my TI-89 before... well, you all know. If you store all the information in a big array of strings, then it works. I also had another that maintained the information for all the locker combos/lunch pin numbers/school userIDs and passwords/etc. That was the best TI-89 BASIC program I ever wrote.

Mine doesn't even have games! And what do I need stupid GPS for? :-p.

And don't make a BASIC organizer program. There are already too many of them in the archives as it is.

Well, I was making it for my own benefit, not so I could clutter up the 89/basic/programs/ folder. Besides, I don't have any backups of my 89 stuff on my computer, so I couldn't finish it, either.
LOL... you're right, if your phone doesn't have games, why does it have a GPS?

Free!

Joey didn't say that it is FREE! The Organizer app for the TI-83+ costs $7 (I think), so I almost didn't think to look because I assumed that this would cost the same.

Right! I almost blew the whole thing off until I looked... and it was free! That would DEFINITELY make the organizer more appealing for people to get it.

Good ol' TI... they give the 68k users the app for free, but the poor old 83+ junkies have got to pay around $8 for it. Great!

Oh well, just another reason to save up for a TI-89, sigh.

Actually, TI's probably just trying to promote the product.

It's been years since they initially released the idea of an Organizer APP, and always with the precedent that it would be for purchase. When the V200 came out they claimed it would be free with a V200 purchase, and everyone else had to pay $8. Now they release it out of the blue, and for FREE! Too bad I already have a PDA.

I'll just stick with my iPAQ Pocket PC for organization, and leave everything else to my TI-89.

If your warranty still applies, you can get it fixed. If it doesn't, you can take it to Best Buy and they'll fix it for you (or simply give you a deal new one and take the old one, fix it, and sell it cheap).

My PDA was discontinued in 1999. I don't think the warrenty is valid anymore.

Palm Zire, $100. Cheap but also just a really basic PDA. It suites me fine.

Palm anything: crappy OS, only in color if expensive, little internal memory and many times no place for expansion, slow, cheap but in $100-$300 range.

Old PDA (like mine): Windows CE 2.11, 16-bit color, lots of memory (most dealers give away 64MB CF cards), 140 mHZ MIPS R4000, $50 for an "out of the box" model on eBay.

I know that the Palm OS is slow. My V200 out preforms it and it runs four Mhz slower. I got it for free so I really don't care.

LOL, another piece of evidence that says TI is trying to take over the PDA market.

They should take over the PDA market. They pretty much have all the software for a PDA and programmers like all the authors here could just make more software and make the PDA better. All TI needs to do is make the hardware better...like a faster processor, atleast 8MB of memory or more, maybe even a color screen (it would have to come with rechargable batteries like the new Game Boy Adv. for that though)...of course they would also somehow have to keep the price down...

I have a Sony Clie SJ20/U (which now belongs to my dad) which uses PalmOS 4.1 and is in grayscale (but with backlight), and I have an older iPAQ 3600 Pocket PC with an ARM processor that uses Windows CE that I got at Best Buy for $149 (it had been opened, and was missing the stylus because of a flaw in the design that prevented it from staying locked inside the frame). In hindsight, I am kicking myself for rushing into the Clie and not waiting and saving my money for a Pocket PC.
if(!(Windows CE > Palm OS && Pocket PC > Palm)) {//world comes to an end}
