New 3D Project
Posted by Joey on 9 May 2003, 02:32 GMT

Thibaut Chevalier is working on a new 3D project for the 89, 92+, and V200. It can reach 20 FPS, and will render scenes from a tilemap. No release date is set, but he plans to release a clone of the old 3D car racing PC game "Stunts" once the engine is perfected. Find out more at his website.

Why is the newsleter still not on the website? This makes no sence to Austin, and I want to see it before I subscribe for the next one.

I was kind of wondering why the newsletter hadn't been posted on the website. Now I know.

With all these new 3D engines coming out for 89s and 83(+)s alike, someone should make a Starfox game. I'm quite suprised no one has made something like this before, and I think it would be a great 3D game. I wonder if you could use 83 raycasting for it...

the low resolution of the 83+ makes it almost impossible to make a decent raycaster. Just look at Kerm Martian's unreal tournament.

THAT IS THE DUMBEST THING THAT I HAVE EVER HEARD.

sure, I applaud him for being able to write it, it is basic. It has to be the slowest thing. You would get a frame rate that is a fraction.

'W', he's not talking about framerate. He's talking about the fact that it looks like a 3D version of Super Mario Bros. - the original NES one. Low-res CRAP.

It does not matter what he was talking about, I think that it would be so slow, that nobody wold want to play it.

-There is no ned to put quotes, W is my first name.-

Don't you have a real name, or did your parents just name you W?

I like Super Mario for NES... if that's what you're talking about... I kind of lost the convo, here :)

So, people just call you W (like, double-u)?

Which brings up an interesting question... in french, 'W' means double-v, while in english, it means double-u. W looks like two v's put together, so why do we say double-u?

Now then... benryves... this is the second time I've had to ask, but can you give me the link to the QBASIC assembly, 3d, etc. kit you were talking about? The direct link didn't work. Also, on your site, you have one of the screenshots mixed up... the PI screenshot is in the sentry location. (Just thought I should let you know)

Thanks! :)

First of all, Wolfenstein 83 and GEMINI are perfect examples of fast raycasting. Yes, the resolution isn't terrific, but it does the job and makes fun games. Second, it doesn't HAVE to be for the 83(+). I just suggested that because I only have an 83...

okay, and the lack of ram that makes Gemini take up 23.5/24kb which means you need to leave it in the archive to make it useable. You also need to use MirageOS, and you have to garbage collect almost every time, which can screw up mirage os even more.

Hehe so true... Thats why i love my 86(and occasionally my 89 for kirby). What i really wish for TI to do is make an 86+, i mean really why take one of the most basic calculators students use and improve on that but do nothing with the better, more advanced calculators. I dislike the fact that my 86 graphs, draws, and 'compiles' basic programs so much slower than an 83+. But an 86 with archive mem as well as the 96k RAM <drool> ooo </drool>. I dont care that i recently purchased a new 86 because my old one died from excessive use (i tried everything... i guess thats what happens with 7 years of excessive use every day) i would go out and buy an 86+ right now if it existed. sigh... one can dream, can't they?

-side note-
check out my rpg -CBSentin- (in my link) and see the HUGE map that was made in basic through strings (thats only the world map, theres also 4 towns and 5 dungeons)

Yes, but the calc can barely function properly with under 500 bytes of ram.

The sad thing is, it doesn't really "compile" the program. It does an overall check for syntax errors, and it makes some statements easier to read, for the calculator. (2i -> 2*i)

I think it also changes multi-character words (e.g., Disp) to single- or double-character tokens which the BASIC interpreter can quickly and easily interpret.
