Archivers Discuss Peeps
Posted by Joey on 23 April 2003, 08:32 GMT

ticalc.org was down from about 4:45 to 6:20 GMT today. Unable to add files for more than 1.5 hours, Morgan and I consoled each other, discussed marshmallow Peeps, and waited for the site to come back up. Somehow, life moves on.

Update (Joey): Despite the red border, everything mentioned in this article actually happened. The only reason it is red is because it is "funny".

It's amazing. More than 80 replies to a news item like this. I think the TI programming is in a recession period. So, it would be good that somebody makes something interesting, or we're gonna die by the boring.

OK, I think I've chosen the wrong word. It's just that I'd like to see some nice program reviews in my front page. I like also the funny news, but the really interesting news are lacking.

Program Reviews

I agree, I mean this is fun, but having *New* reviews would be really nice. I mean, the newest one was written 2 years ago. There are many people who are happy to volunteer their time to do this, myself included. Just an idea :)

I agree, it would be really nice to see just about all the files reviewed if possible because then it would be easier to download the ones you like.

That would take years to accomplish. Just think about writing a review for every program on the frontpage every day. Even if there were a 100 reviewers, it would be next to impossible to get all the files reviewed. Hell, just screenshotting the programs on the front page takes a long enough time.

Re: Re: Re: Program Reviews

It's not necessary to review every program. You could just take a look what programs are the most downloaded and review them, or the programs that show something new or extraordinary. This is your site, so you choose the programs you or something else could review.

Or, do a distibuted reviewing project. like distributed computing, a bunch of geeks sit back, download their favorite flavor of program, run it on their calc, and write a review. If you get complaints from other reviewers, take the review off in favor of another. that simple. a volunteer mission. please? I NEED SOMETHING TO DO!!! <sobs for hours>

We thought it would take a few months for you two (archivers) to get rid of of the massive amounts in the pending queue but it didn't. If we get about 10 people dedicated people for each calculator the jiob might be able to be finished in a year or less. Anyway it still is unrealistic.

Peeps are the best, they keep you up all night on a sugar high! Maybe the marshmallows got stuck in the servers innards for the downtime, or the server was away for a peep break.

Hey if you haven't seen this, this game is pretty cool, for a webpage based game:

http://www.outwar.com/page.php?x=855779

Maybe someone could create a calcwar.com.....

I am making a Manopoly (yes, that is how you spell it) game, but now I might make the properties businesses, such as Boardwalk being Micro$oft (copyright 2003 KermMartian), and all of the other properties being some type of business. Look for it when it comes out. :)
