Newsletter Returns
Posted by Michael on 15 April 2003, 03:08 GMT

There's no red border here; after over two years of inactivity, the ticalc.org monthly newsletter will be returning. Joey will be the new newsletter editor. Our new visitors may be unfamiliar with the newsletter and its content, so look at past editions and then subscribe!. To contribute material for the newsletter, e-mail newsletter@ticalc.org.

Update (Joey): Please send your subscriptions to the address on the Subscribe page, not to newsletter@ticalc.org. The newsletter@ address is for submissions to the newsletter ONLY. Thanx.

Sorry if I look stupid but... I don't understand how to register for the newsletter! I emailed "suscribe (assembly-89)" but I receive a message in return saying that this mailing list does not exist!

Try it again, spelling "SUBSCRIBE" correctly, and typing the assembly-89 without the parentheses:

SUBSCRIBE assembly-89

Actually, I'm not so sure you'd really want to try it if you don't know much about assembly..

As far as I know only the "Newsletter" list is back up and running.

The Newsletter and Filenews are read-only newsgroups. The Assembly-89, TI-BASIC, etc. are discussion groups and have been up for as long as I can remember.

What did they mean by (listname) in the subscription instructions? I tried to subscribe to Assembly-89 and it returned an e-mail that said "no such list exists." I'm confused :/

In fact, even the newsletter was active before now... it's just that nothing was posted to it. :o)

Not that i am complaining but does any one else think that it is funny that this comes right after the survey, in which more people voted for POTM than the newsletter. It really shows that our imput counts.

WOW, we work on improving the site, and still get criticized. :) We have a lot of things we are doing right now, it was just an extra project Joey was willing to take up. I am anciously awaiting the first edition.

*Question* Is adding screenshots for files that don't have them upon uploading a good thing? Thought I might do this and see how it goes for a while.

That is kind of hard to say.. The authors would know the best parts of the program to screencap but simply didn't take the extra time to make them.

Maybe someone could add a checkbox to request screencaps.. or in the meantime not worry about it unless authors request it in the archiver comments.

Actually there was a tie in the poll between "Both" and "POTM". From that I think it should have been PTOM but hey, time keeps everything from happening at once (i.e. stops utter chaos).

OK, I hope this newsletter to be something great from what I have read. Could someody tell me what's POTM and what happened in the 2000 with this guy Steve Watt-something-? Thanx

Re: Re: Newsletter Returns
JcN  Account Info

PotM means Program of the Month. It's an award ceremony that used to be held at ticalc for the best program of that month. I think it was chosen by the members, but I wasn't a member of this site when they did it :(

I don't know what Steve did...maybe he hacked into the archives and deleted everything (at least, there is a news article about something like that happening at a site similar to ticalc. It's a public apology). Try looking in the news archives.

Read the humor column by Steve Watt on the link above. It is the April 2000 newsletter.
