VTI v3.0 Alpha
Posted by Michael on 24 February 2003, 00:49 GMT

Rusty Wagner and Corey Taylor have been working on a new version of Virtual TI, our most-downloaded file of all time. Available from SourceForge, v3.0 emulates the 73, 83+, and 83+ SE. It even allows for writing to flash, a major issue with 2.5. While there is still much work to be done, this is a significant development and hopefully will lead to a wonderful finished product.

Download the alpha here.

This is the exact same version as the one floating around for a while on the A83 mailing list. Nothing new here between a month ago and now.

I know, I never changed the release. I just put it on sourceforge the other day to try out the management abilities.

I guess it was just noticed there.

I think that this is the same version that's been floating around unofficially for the past couple YEARS. I'd tried a 3.0 Alpha last year, and it could run Flash stuff but not normal programs, so I think it's the same one.

Finally! A Flash-compatible VTI! I know that there were a couple of people working on this type of project, but I think it's best that Rusty does it, considering he made the original...

I don't know, but the old one won't take the rom from my 83+

I would have to assume that they made it work now. As for why you couldn't get the rom off the calc, i had no problem doing that it just didn't work with the emulator. Perhaps it was a bad connection or something else was trying to use the port.

Yeah, I just used the old one. My 83+ ROM didn't seem to work, but the SE did :)

Within one second of running the program, it crashes with an 'access violation'... no good.

I believe the workaround for that bug is to place the ROMs you want to emulate in the same directory as the VTI executable.

it doesn't work with all calculators, try an 83+ rom

So the same folder has to contain the rom and that folder must not have any other roms for the other calcs. So I can now get it to start up, but the emulated calc sits dead. Choosing the reset calc option doesn't do anything.

Any more suggestions?

I tried it. It doens't seem to work if you have an upgrade of the OS. You need a full ROM Dump from your calculator. I found that the VTI is ONLY for the 83+. Also garbageCollect freezes as thus resetting ALL memory. I can't figure out a way to send files into it either.

With the 89, you have to have it in recieve mode. Maybe that will help.

I did that, and put it in the executable directory. No luck.

it is a z80 flash alpha concept release only. it only works on flash calculators and SE support is ... well it loads it and loads flash, the rest isn't 100%.

I finally just reloaded an 83+ ROM, but I got that problem above (the calc not turning on). And YES, I did try turning up the contrast :p
Right now, I'm trying out my SE, we'll see how that works :)

Speaking of beta.... Why didn't 2.5 ever get out of beta, despite going up to beta 5?

Place the all the files that came with new version of VTI in the same folder as wherever you've placed the old version of VTI.

Enjoy :)
