New Years Status Update
Posted by Magnus on 1 January 2003, 12:33 GMT

As the new year should start on the last parts of the globe in about 30 minutes, it's about time for a quick status update.

  • Hiring of news editor
We're working on it :-) Down to a few candidates now, but we're currently waiting for a couple of our staff members to return from holidays before we make the final choice. Expect the result in the beginning of january.
  • Filearchive updates
Yes, both our filearchivers are unavailable at the moment - out of town or very busy with studies. We expect this to be solved mid-january. Hopefully we can get some sporadic updates through before that.
  • accounts/webmaster mail
Yes, we've neglected those. Basically, there have been issues as far back as end of september that has gone unanswered. We'll try to fix this now. But in order to avoid double-work, if you have an open issue, please resend it if you haven't received a response. And make sure you send to the correct address - see Contact Us for a list.
  • help@ticalc.org mail
We currently do not have the resources to answer mail to this address. Please use our mailinglists instead. Or TI support if it is an issue with builtin functions in the calculator.
  • Site hosting
We still don't accept new site hostings.

Suggestions to Magnus:

Ideas:
On your file author page, tell which of your files is the most popular
Delete the frauds' accounts (at least _no_one_2000_`)

Do those sound good? ;) They're just ideas.

Maybe the power button was depressed (i.e. pressed in), so when the power cane on, the comp came up.

No; my PC has the kind of power button that doesn't depress. I think it was the Wake on LAN feature in my BIOS... which I had turned on, apparently.

***IMPORTANT***
ac  Account Info

The shocking history of the greatest word has been unvealed! After hours (or minutes) of research on Google, I have discoverd this about the almighty w00t!:
(This is copied from someone's comment in a forum from a while back)

I had to be enlightened just a little bit ago. I've heard that w00t (w,<zero>, <zero>, t) is a combination of "wow" and "cool". That's my $0.02.

I think it also has something to do with the word "woot", which stemmed from "whoot", which came from the spoken exclamation. It also has some roots in so-called "1337 sp34k" ("leet speak", or the rampant substitution of numbers for similarly-shaped letters.) After all, the 1337 treatment, applied to "woot" yields "w00t". In short, the word's origins are disputable, but it is pretty much the equivalent to "COOL!!!". W00t also has quite a few variations, like "w00table" and "the w00t". (The latter of which I've seen used often in the phrase "omg teh w00t!!". Yeah.)

That's worth noticing...w00t!

Re: Re: Re: Re: ***IMPORTANT***

I don't know, but in the old days, people didn't care about the exclamation mark. It wasn't needed. Then new people came in and said it had to be on or it was incorrect. I don't think it needs it, unless it's used as an interjection.

>>That's my $0.02.

If you are refering to the statement "That's my two bits", then you are incorrect in assuming that $0.02 is two bits.

A bit, in US currency, was equal to $0.125. So if you were to express two bits as cents, it would be $0.25.

Funny...I live in the United States and I've always heard "two bits" instead of "two cents". Actually, it has been a while since I have heared either.
