Vacation Times
Posted by Henrik on 28 June 2002, 22:00 GMT

It is vacation times for the ticalc.org staff. Being based in the northern hemisphere, we will enjoy summer. I know at least some of us will do some extensive travelling around the globe. Due to this, pending files will grow, help mail will be answered with greater delay, and not much new will happen for a month or two.

The ticalc.org staff wishes all our visitors a good summer (or winter if you are below the equator) and hope you all understand we all need some vacation.

Tell us about your own vacation plans below.

I've been to BYU before. It was for the state Math Competition or something. My teacher that went with us had "connections" and got us into the physics lab. Now that is a cool place! Plus we got to see a chemistry demo with "elephant's toothpaste" and the exploding balloons. The balloons exploded really big, too. ;)

BTW, good luck with your courses.

I just got back from our trip to Destin Beach, Florida. All of my e-mail address storage is full and lots of my online passwords have expired.

Later in July I'll go on a French canoeing Trip were we can only speak French (and English if you don't know French). This trip is put on by Concordia and it's up (or down to people north of Minnesota) in the headwaters of Minnesota. It's very fun and this is my second year to do it.

I also built a new AMD T-bird with a 1333 MHz CPU. Big upgrade from my old Pentium MMX 233 MHz Computer.

Hey, did you get your processor online? Some website sold me one, but it was DOA so I've got all my computer parts assembled waiting for a good AMD socket A processor.

As for vacation- heading to the beach and in August I'm flying out to Vegas! Never been there, should be fun.

I'm going to be having a fun summer: Princeton Review courses and summer homework for 5 APs. Guess I won't have much time to learn ASM, like I originally planned. :( Oh well.

Five APs? My school only offered one, but now that I've graduated they have three. Though my Calculus course was almost exactly like the AP Calculus AB course, but we don't have a teacher's union and the school makes teachers pay for AP certifications themselves. But I took the test anyway.

My school offers at least 15 APs. Then again, we have a teachers' union, although it's not too happy with the district right now because of a contract dispute (we had a teacher walk-out about a month ago).

It doesn't matter how many APs your school offers, it matters how many out of the whole bunch you take. I (pardon the lack of modesty) take all AP classes.

yeah, my high school only offers about 8. But, they have a lot more that are called dual enrollment, which is basically the same thing, but you get credit based on your grades, not on the final. What's great about that is, there's this one history class that is both ap and dual enrollment, so you can get all of your required college history credits done with (presuming you don't major in history).

Mine offered one (US History) when I was there. Now, in the first year that I'm gone, they offer two more (US Gov't & Physics B). And there are plans to add AP European History in a couple of years. I would've taken all three.

He didn't say he took AP classes while he was in 9th and 10th grade. He just said he took all the ones he could. I don't think many schools offer more than 12, and that's six per year.

I've already got six credits for HS, and I haven't even started yet! Anyways, I'm gonna skip Biology and take chemistry instead, then AP chemistry, then AP physics. I already took Earth science, Algebra, Geometry, and three years of Latin. However, I'm taking German next year instead of Latin IV.
As for vacations, I just had an exciting camping trip.
First off, our boat wasn't fixed when we needed it, so we left four hours late. next, the traffic was bad, so we didn't get there until nine. Then, we requested a camp site with power/water, but they gave us one without that. Then, we decided just to set up one of the pop-up things. Then, when my mom came back from seeing if they had any other places, she said they had one, so we had to take the pop-up down. When we got to the new site, we found out that it wasn't near the water and it was in the middle of everyone (the people with big lights and TVs/computers) and also that someone had reserved it for sunday. Then, when we setup the pop-ups, we found out that one of the power things wasn't working. After that, we soon found out that somebody had turned the cooler from a cold setting to a hot setting by accident, so a lot of our food was spoiled. Next, one of the zippers to the pop-up was broken, so there were lotsa bugs and spiders and stuff.
But other than that, it was fine.

What's the big deal with graduating early? If your school has dual-enrollment, you can just take college classes for free at a nearby college. I guess if you didn't have any decent colleges nearby you should graduate early, but I don't have that problem.
