TI-Keyboard: Coming Soon?
Posted by Eric on 11 May 2002, 22:25 GMT

Several people have alerted me to an interesting new piece of hardware mentioned on Page 8 of the recent TI-Cares publication- a full-sized QWERTY keyboard that hooks up into your calculator's link port. A couple keyboard projects have been in the works lately by independent developers, but apparently TI has decided to make their own official version. More news to come? Hopefully...

If this entire news article isn't a poster child for having user moderated comments, I don't know what is.

Anyhow, This Keyboard is a good Idea. It's been a little too long in my opinion, especially on the Ti-89 which could have used the extra functionally of a keyboard. Most likely Ti is doing this to try recover some of the business that palm is taking from them, especially since the palm is great when it comes to taking notes for class.

Ordoinc.

I really want this keyboard, but I would really hope that this keyboard will be usable in programming. That way if I know the exact command I need, I will not have to search for the command in the Catalog (sometimes I do know the exact location of the command I need, so that speeds it up. For example: ClrHome is under the 'prgm' key, right one, and number '8').

And does anyone know when TitanAsm is coming out? It is a DetachedSolutions program that will allow on-calc assembly programming with several nice features.

DS has had that on their web site a while now. Have they announced when it's coming out? I hope they finish it so they can get to work on their 3D Graphing App. I can't wait for that to come out.

MirageOS has pissed me off for so long now. It always crashes, and I guess I'm just being an Ion & TSE II zealot (like a Linux zealot) to fight the system. Please list all flames below. w00t!

My calc has only crashed once since I got it. That one time was when I had Ion. I got MirageOS and I haven't any problems. I feel your pain, though, I can't get ZTetris to work right.

I made a math program in BASIC for my 83 plus, and I just recently got a Silver Edition (hooray for b-days!). Now I can't run my prog out of MirageOS - every time it gets to an input prompt, the calc shuts off and then clears RAM (EVERY single time, without fail). This may just be a stupid +/SE compatability issue, but I can still run the prog fine from the home screen. So MirageOS causes probs for BASIC progs on a SE.. go figure.

Well, I've had the same problem with my many basic programs on my calc (83+SE) running them through Mirage. But unlike you whiners, I actually did something about it...you can download a fixed version here. No, just kidding. Actually, I e-mailed them about it, and though I didn't get a response from a human, the auto-response had a list of frequently asked questions, and that was one of them - why does my calc keep crashing when I try to run basic programs through Mirage. Apparently, there is a bug in Mirage 1.1 that causes this, and it's going to be fixed in the next release, which is...I'm not sure when.

Re: Re: Re: TI-Keyboard

yes, mirageOS does have some bugs (on my 83+ SE), but they are not that bad considering some of the best games are writen for mirageOS only.

Re: TI-Keyboard

Anyone know how much it will cost and if it can be used on the SATs? 92s can't be used on the SATs b/c it has a QWERTY keyboard.

THIS IS A QWERTY KEYBOARD! Therefore, it will not be allowed.

You'd think ticalc would see such an exorbitant amount of off-topic posts and consider setting up a public discussion forum? This idea is long overdue.

Ah, but the itcalc staff is so busy that they can't even process the file queue, much less moderate the messge boards.
