Voyage 200 PLT Announced
Posted by Eric on 7 January 2002, 18:47 GMT

Voyage 200TI has announced Voyage 200, a new calculating device they're calling a "Personal Learning Tool" (PLT). The device is similar to the TI-92+ and contains all its features, including a QWERTY keyboard. It also includes a funky new design and a 2.7MB ROM. It'll go for around $200 (includes a Graph Link) and will be out in time for back-to-school season. Check the page for more information or view the specifications.

Update: (Nathan): Okay, okay, so it's been announced and not yet released. Boy, some of you people are picky! :)

What I don't understand is that most people don't like the TI-92+ as it is. I can't possibly think that it will sell well. Why would TI try to create something that people seem to have no interest for?

I like my TI-92+ just as it is. I think this is the wrong move for TI.

Okay. I've checked it out. There is an ASM lockout. But I don't want to use a HW2 Patch because these AMS's are beyond 2.05 and I don't want to screw them up.

This will be a hw3 thus hw2 patch will not work on it. I am wondering how long it will take to hack it, if it is even possible.

You can always hack it... just how much time, money, and skill you wish to spend on it. Nothing is perfect, and provided adaquate time is given, all things can be hacked.

I myself will do not plan to get one, i did get the SE and put it in a normal 83+ case... My curretn calc list is: 80, 81, 82 (old case version), 83+, 83+ SE, 85, 86, 89 (HW1), 89 (HW2), and 92+ (HW2).

Yes, but technically, some hardware intervention might be required.

Why do you need all the calculators. I think all you need is the 86 and the 89/92+. I think that those two are the best combinations of calculators. What do you all think the best combination is?

UGH. I'm one of the first ones to email TI to put this article up on their website, after I saw it on calc.org. GO to calc.org, and see my article. TI is a bunch of losers. Either you make a calculator or a palm pilot. THe voyager is more of a palmpilot, but with buttons. and a stupid question, if they made icons, why can't they just include a stylus? I mean, its so much more logical....
I really hope there is a new TI-89 AMS version coming out soon, with more features. God damn TI, they take forever to make a new one.
btw-my screen is pretty screatched up, is there anyway I can replace the screen? Maybe go to staples, and switch screens or something? I'm not sure, but an answer would be nice.
Also, I think the 89/92 is the best combo. The 83+ is good if you're a cheap kid who can't afford anything, and needs a calculator.

Do you mean ticalc.org instead of TI?

Also, you want TI to make a calculator *or* a Palm Pilot, just not include features of both, yet you want them to make a better TI-89.

As for the screen, email TI.

One more thing--this is a TI calculator site, and most of us don't care for Palm Pilots. If we did, we'd go to a Palm Pilot site and talk about them there.

hehe...my bad, yeah, TI-Calc. heh, sorry.

I want them to add functions to the TI-89, like maybe a good 2mb, and easier connectivity to your computer. Also, a rechargable battery is a must in the next calculator. In addition, the new TI-89's **must** have easier organization for its menus. Sometimes I don't even see some of the menus because they're hidden underneath the 6 and 7 buttons.

Whoever posted about the stylus and the scratched up screen. Seems like you don't know anything about palmpilot styli. If you really wanted, I can show you a new kind of stylus I recently acquired that is must softer than the original which does not scratch up the screen. Way to use information to help you in your posts there buddy.

About emailing TI with the dirty/scratched screen. Is it possible that I take apart the TI-89 with the screws, and clean the screen? Some feedback would be nice.
The Palm Pilot Man

PS. Shows how much you cant file a valuable debate by telling me to go to a palm pilot website to talk on their forums rather than TI's. It shows that you can't prove your point that Palms are better than TI's, and you're trying to push me away rather than deal with the fact.

Now let's get offensive.

A calculator and a palm are two different things. If you want to discuss palm stuff, go to palm site. If you're in the mood to discuss about calculators, go to calc site.

Really, even though they seem to grow towards each other, they remain two entirely different devices, used in different situations and for different purposes, thus incompareable.

If you love your palm more than your calculator: good, don't bother me.

they arent used in different situations. THink about it. On the calc., we have scheduler programs (TI-89) to organize our classes, and we all are hoping for the new AMS version because of a clock. There are i'm sure programs on the 89 that let you store peoples numbers. On the palm, its the same thing, we need half of the time a calculator and the other time a phone number. And you say to go to a palm website and discuss this. Well, if TI is merging their voyager into a palm pilot, am I supposed to keep my mouth shut? No, I don't think so. The voyager is a cheap cut down version of the palm. So don't tell me to go wherever, I can make that decision on my own.
BTW, I have changed my name underneath.

That is true, they seem to grow towrds each other, but they remain two different devices. Anyway, maybe that's just a matter of opinion...

According to TI-CAS, there will be a TI-89 AMS update with the icon desktop, and on HW2 also the clock feature, of the Voyage(TM) 200.

scratched screen...

While I was working on some homework several months ago, I mindlessly set my calc on the floor. Somehow, I ended up moving the chair, then sat down and noticed it was off balance. I looked and my calc was under one leg! The screen now has a dark splotch on it.

I'm thankful I got the $8 3-year warranty from the vendor I got the calc from. (I had to have the calc replaced once before after 2 years or so). Now, I just need to call them and see if I can find out when my warranty ends, and if it ends after the 200 PLT comes out, then maybe I'll wait until then to send my TI-92 plus in...

I collect them, to a certain extent... like i collect RPGs. They can be expensive (compared to rocks or models or cards), but are cheap compared to cars, houses, boats, art.

Alex Block: No offense, but we don't need an 'informational text' about TI-92+ error numbers, since the only people who would use them are 92+ owners and the error numbers are *listed* in the instruction manual.
