TI Connect Software Released
Posted by Eric on 16 December 2001, 01:33 GMT

In what's probably the biggest announcement from TI in a while, the long-awaited TI Connect software has been released. TI Connect is the next generation link software that works with the TI-73, TI-83 Series, TI-89, and TI-92+. It has a new purty interface and makes data transferring much easier than before.

Another comment: I think that what these people are doing is putting unnecessary stress upon the TICalc.org staff, and giving them the extra work they *really* don't need right now.

Did anyone notice that the icons with the 92/+ and 89 looked similar to the 83+SE?

I just had to give you 89/92/92+ users a little something to hope for.

It was about time; the old link sofware used *OLD* windows API calls; that resulted in common dialog boxes not showing long file names etc.

thanks, TI.

Well, I download the software, it took me a well wasted 1 hour, I mean this program is virtually useless, except for some features, but overall, we can live without TI Connect

I believe you are right. The new Software actually makes it a little more difficult to send files to ones calc (89 in my case), ad it's 9MB!! The interface has certanily been improved, but the old Graphlink software could send tons of files at a time. Who cares, I could survive without an interface facelift, I have done so for 4 years.

Also, it's a pain in the *ss to have to autodetect my calculator every time I want to send something. I've had problems sometimes trying to send files. I am using Windows XP Home, but I don't think it makes a difference. Whatever, TI is being really crappy by not including the TI-86 etc. TI-89 rules.

The right click-sendto-TI Device is very usefull, as well as the screen capture, but I am going to stick with the old software for the rest. Takes me 30 sec-1 minute or so for it to detect my calc each time I load it, and every once in a while it won't detect it at all. Highly annoying considering whenever I use the old software it finds it immediately and works immediately.

If it takes that long to autodetect the calculator, why doesn't TI just put a little ICON to click on, to save us the hassle?

But that would make sense, so they can't do THAT.

Detecting the calculator type itself does not take long (you can see when it does), it's detecting what's on the calc that takes up the most time. There is no practical/possible way to keep track of what's on the calc, on the computer, so the icon idea wouldn't work.

TI 86 Support
ooosadface

Incase anyone still cares, I emailed TI with regards to the new software not supporting the 86 and this is what was emailed back:

"Thank you for contacting Texas Instruments, an educational technology
company.

The primary focus of TI Connect software is to provide support for the
Flash devices, specifically the TI-73, TI-83 Plus, TI-83 Plus Silver
Edition, TI-89 and the TI-92 Plus. Because of inherent similarities,
support for TI-83 and TI-92 has been possible by supporting TI-83 Plus,
TI-83 Plus Silver Edition and the TI-92 Plus. Unfortunately the TI-86,
while still an important device, is not included in the devices supported
with the initial release of TI Connect. However, support for the TI-86 may
be available in a future release of the software."

im having a problem with ticonnect

For a while, it was working fine, but now I can't get it to connect at all.

When I start the Device Explorer, there is a pop-up box that says "Please wait while the software attempts to connect to your device . . ." There is a cancel button, but this does no good. I have to kill it with the Task Manager.

When I get this box, I look over at my calc to see if it's doing anything. The cursor stops blinking for a while, as if something were happening, but then it goes right on blinking again with no change in the Device Explorer.

I am using Windows XP with a TI-83 Plus calc, version 1.14.

Windows XP isn't supported by TI Connect. Read the link in the news article for more info on that.

Actually, it works fine for me the first time, but if I want to connect it again I basically have to reboot my computer...

Hip Hip Hurray!
Sometimes my TI-92+ freezes and It'd be easier to transfer my backup instead of turning on my computer.
