Back in business!
Posted by Magnus on 9 December 2001, 14:31 GMT

We have now opened the last two sections of the archives that have been down for review - TI-92 and Mac.

This means that our archives are now back up. We are still working on putting back the ranking lists, featured programs lists, latest updates etc, but expect them to come back pretty fast, since it's basically just a matter of re-enabling things that were there before.

Our list of pending files to update is currently at more than 1000 files. We will of course work to get this down, but please be patient as we work through the queue...

Update (Magnus): FTP server has been shut back down, due to extreme abuse during the short time it was left open. We will look into solutions to limit this abuse, and hopefully we'll be able to open it back up before too long.

It seems as though you're not quite out of the water yet, but at least you've got one foot on dry land! Sure, there's a lot of work ahead, but I speak for the whole community in saying:
For Great Justice.

Question about the survey:

"I wasn't around two years ago"... sounds like there's some 1-1/2 year olds browsing this site...

Oops! You're right, they should have re-worded it. I didn't even notice that little "mistake."

Yes, well, that's all good and well, but it seems that the link port of my TI89 has actually *fallen out*. Anybody know if TI will replace this (if the calc is under warranty)? If not, I'll probably end up buying a new one... oy.

why don't post one larger reaction instead of 5 small reaction so fast after each other. It's quite annoying.

Yeah, they fixed the I/O port on my 83+. Just send them an e-mail, telling them the link port's broken. And it helps if you sound frustrated :P If you do end up getting another one, conside selling me the old one. I want it for parts!

*Sound* frustrated?? I would be frustrated (very frustrated, actually) if I lost my link port.

Yeah, they'll replace it, but I hope you have better luck than I did...
When my TI-86 and TI-89 link ports stopped working along with my gray graph link cable, I sent it all into them only to get back two TI-86s...I sent one back and got my TI-89, but they still won't give me back my cable...I had to go buy the evil black one...:(

Oh, but black is just so much more stylish :) and it goes with the color of the upper-level calc cases. (Ever notice that 73's are a light grey, 82 mk2's are a bit darker, and 89's are totaly black?)

Hey brandon, they still haven't sent you your cable, that sucks. And yes i agree the black cable is evil, I borrowed a gray one the other day and it took me 5 mins instead of the normal 11 to restore my 89. The black cable has some sort of "governor" on it to limit the max transfer speed, because calc to calc is faster than my computer with the black cable, the gray cable comes closer to calc to calc speed BUT the gray cable is hard to find now a days. Maybe the USB for windblows will be out soon and then I can use it.

You could probably fix it yourself if it is not under warrenty. I replaced my 83 link port with one from a broken 86.

If you still have the entire link port, it's very easy to just solder it back onto the board. Mine broke off all three contacts, but stayed in the calc and I just reconnected it.

I did that to my 82 mk2, It worked 2 times then fell out again. You would be better at least trying to get it swapped.

P.S. Good work TICalc! Great to see you back in action
